Thank You to All Our Folks on Spokes-Folks on Foot Supporters!
Sunday, September 27 was another spectacular day for Bridges' 24th annual Folks on Spokes Ride, Run, Walk for Mental Health at Fowler Field, Milford. Over 350 participants and volunteers enjoyed the day of fun, fitness and friendship. The event raised $36,000 to help Bridges provide vital mental health and addictions services in our community.
Bridges' Board Chair Michelle LeMere thanked the crowd for their participation. "By coming out to ride, run or walk for mental health, you are also telling the world that we can and should talk openly about mental illness and addiction. These are illnesses and we know that with the right care, people can recover and live healthier lives," said LeMere. She continued, "You are helping children and adults and teens who may be suffering because of a family trauma, who are anxious or depressed, or who may be developing a serious mental illness like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, severe depression.
You are also giving support to some who have become addicted to alcohol or pain killers or heroin, and really want help to become sober, healthy and productive again. Our programs and services, including prevention programs for our young people and Mental Health First Aid training, touched the lives of over 10,000 people last year."
The top personal fundraiser was Brennan Mohring who raised $720 in personal pledges. Coach Joan Smeland raised over $400 from her Walks with Buddy initiative. Dave Grylka presented a donation check to Bridges for $964, that he and his college roommate, Steve Krozer raised in their cross country cycling trip this summer as "4226 for Charity", before each started graduate studies. Eight year old Julianne Giordano was the winner of the 1 Mile Kids Fun Run.
